Ryan returns! We catch up on his life over the last couple years, including his VERY COOL new earring. We also celebrate our 100th ConvoCast by dusting off the oft-neglected “YOBcast Topics” spreadsheet to talk about what we WOULD talk about if we were talking about it (but we’re not). Do you follow? Potential YOBcast topics like robosexuality, nudity, cuddling, arousal, and much, much more.

Thanks friends for 100 conversations!

About the Author

  • Hey Tom & Ryan!

Loved the show and you have lots of great topics!
I was asked to join a group of artists that would usually draw a nude figure, but this time all the artists would be nude and we would draw a clothed person! I wanted to…but didn’t know if I could handle it.
    (there was this one artist)
I don’t know if I could do an interview in the nude…but if I do…I better do it quick cause I’m already 63 years old and you may not want to see my naked body!
But dang…I could sure use that sauna or spa or hot tub! Looking forward to the next show.
    Love Your Other Brother Ty✌🏼

  • Hi, Tom and Ryan

It was great to hear you both on the same Convocast again. I really enjoyed the episode. Thank you.
I think that all of the issues which you raised are worth researching and discussing on future podcasts. Where the queasy-making subject of human-AI relationships is concerned, there was an excellent TV drama series here in the UK between 2015 and 2018 called Humans. It explored many different aspects of the imagined introduction of ‘synths’ (synthetic humans) to a future Britain. One aspect was sexual relationships and sex between humans and synths. The subject was treated with maturity and the relevant scenes, from memory, were not pornographic. If you can get this series in the US I would recommend it. Spoiler alert – during the series the synths develop in a way which radically shifts the balance of power between them and the humans, and the ending is not pretty!

My extra suggestions for subjects for future Convocasts are ones which focus on the third key element of YOB – faith. Although Christian faith is applied to all of the topics which are discussed and is clearly fundamental to a Side B life, relatively few episodes have taken faith as the main focus. I think one fruitful line of enquiry would be exploring the different spiritual disciplines by which all Christians, but especially perhaps Side B Christians, stay close to Jesus, and remain aware daily both of His love for them and His call that they take up their cross and follow him in all aspects of their lives. For me, these include: prayer, including periods of silent prayer; Scripture reading, not just with the aid of a commentary, but also in the slow, reflective lectio divina manner; frequently taking part in Holy Communion; and doing church locally with a supportive group of fellow Christians.

Where the last is concerned, unfortunately, after nearly 30 years of worshipping at the High-Church end of the Anglican Church, as a discreet Side B Christian in two successive Side A congregations, I have recently had to move to a less High-Church Side B-supporting congregation, after the gap between my convictions on sexuality and those of the previous church became too large for me to continue worshipping there in good conscience. I left my old church on good terms, but the transition is painful, as well as hopeful.

I will continue to pray for YOB and YOS: YOB has been a great support to me over the past few years.

    God bless.

    Ian
